The Honiton Fairtrade Town Steering Group have been working to gain Fairtrade Town certification for Honiton since 2021. We achieved this in September 2023.
We have held many awareness raising events and worked with businesses in Honiton who sell or use Fairtrade products. We are confident that many people in the town support ethical trading and care about the benefits of Fairtrade to people less fortunate than we are.
A producer, e.g. of cocoa in Cote d’Ivoire, is required to work with others in a co operative. They work to six stringent standards which are independently reviewed.
Being under the Fairtrade scheme brings great advantages to producers and workers.
The town celebrates Fairtrade Fortnight with events and information to raise awareness and encourage support for Fairtrade principles.
