In March 2026, the Honiton Community College Girl’s U16 rugby team competed at the Rosslyn Park National Schools Rugby Sevens tournament for the first time. Four girls from the team, along with Geography Teacher and coach Matt Hague, came to our meeting on 25 September in the Beehive Cafe to talk about their experience.

The Rosslyn Park Sevens is an annual seven day tournament involving over 15,000 boys and girls aged 11 to 18 from schools all over England.
The Honiton girls won all three of their pool matches in the U16 competition, which meant they progressed to Day 2 as group winners.
This was a great achievement for the team, and required their teachers to find last minute overnight accommodation so that they could stay for the next day!
On Day 2, they won all three matches in their Plate group and only narrowly lost the U16 Plate final.
After such a good start, the girl’s team is keen to enter again in 2027 and they are looking for sponsorship from local businesses to help support their journey.
If you are interested in supporting the girl’s rugby team to compete in the Rosslyn Park Sevens in March 2027, go to their Gofundme page where you can find details of sponsorship opportunities and who to contact, or make a donation to help get the girls to Rosslyn Park.
